Nail Growth: Tips & Tricks

I think it may be obvious but...I failed at my 3 month nail challenge.  Kicking myself for falling off but oh well.
Click here to see when I first wanted to start this challenge.

Anyway, I have begun again! This time I am already a month in!
The main reason I gave up last time was because my nails didn't seem to be growing or strengthening at all. And they broke off after a week. Ugh.

Nail Growth

So I gave up...but I have decided to start again. Because I noticed after i gave up, my nails just kept breaking and breaking and never grew past a certain length.  At least before when they were breaking, they still were growing.

What I have been doing is mixing oils [olive oil, avocado oil, and grapes oil], heat them up, and let my nails soak in that for 10 minutes. Moistures my actual nails and cuticles. And if they are moisturized they won't break because they won't be dry!

After a month, my nails are back to were they were when I started. I also only file and trim the either once a month or when I need to [hang nail or whatever]. This also helps keep up the strength of the ends of my nails.

I will be keeping up with this regimen for sure, my nails keep growing. I wonder how long they will get??

Growing Out My Nails: 3 Month Count

Since I have been in nail care these past few weeks, I have been watching plenty of nail care videos.
I found one in particular where a women grew her nails out quite long in 3 months. She said her nails do not grow any faster than normal and they are thin as well. So I was hooked and wanted to use some of her technique to grow out my nails and see if it works on anyone.

My nails grow thick but they peel like crazy! One thing she recommended was applying oil daily to your cuticles. I have been using the Burt's Bee's Cuticle Cream for daily use.

Also recommended from another nail-guru was soaking your nails in olive oil for 5-10 min once a week or more. I also added this into my nail regimen but I added Vitamin E and Coconut Oil.

Last thing I added but wasn't recommended was a growth base coat. The on I got is from American Classics. Not sure yet if it makes a difference because I just started using it but I will let you know how it works for me.                                                                                     .                                                                                                                      So of course I am going to keep track of my growth and keep up on this new regimen to see if my nails really grow better and stronger.
These are my nails at the beginning of this test run, which was last Wednesday [10-1].  I will be updating with picks each month to track the growth as well.

Nail: A Mani I Hated

I actually hated this mani. It turned out to be Easter-looking and that is not what I was going for in the slightest. I was just playing around and then it got ugly...then worse....then Easter eye explosion on my nails. Ugh.
I used...

It only lasted a day.

Milani is giving me so much LIFE! These color statement polishes are so lovely.
This one is Peri-Wink. A gorgeous fresh blue with a hint of pearl.
I topped with a bit of nail art, some leopard print and...lines? IDK what to call that, lol, just lines.

I need more of these polishes in my life!

Nail Art: Flowers #3

My vacation nail art...not a favorite of mine. I forgot my base coat. So the first night I wanted to do my nails, I was a bit discouraged. To me all I see are flaws. The base color, JulieG 9 to 5, was so streaky. I think it was the lack of BC but I won't know till I try it again. Then my art could have been better I think. But it was wearable. Ended up chipping after one day tho. Lack of a BC, I know.

Hopefully my next round of this orange will go better.

HAUL: Nail Polish

Lets HAUL it in!

I'm going on vacation tonight (and going to be vlogging so stay tuned for that) so last night I did some last minute shopping. Of course I had to stroll down the beauty isle. I didn't need any thing makeup related, but that dint stop me from looking. LoL! One thing i wanted was the nude lipstick from L'Oreal, the J.Lo one. But they were all out at Walmart and CVS was $10! $4 more than the Mart. Luckly, I got some CVS bucks after my purchase, so I can go back to get it.
Anyway, on to what I did haul.
Two Milani Nail polishes. Bombshell (the pink) and Imperial Purple.
Next two, Salon Perfect Nail Art stripers. Silver and white. I just need to practice....a lot.
Lastly two Julie G polishes, 9 to 5 and Shoe-a-holic. The 9 to 5 is a popular color of hers and it is not what I expected from hearing about it. It has an underlying pink color, interested to see how it looks on my nails.

That is all, hope you enjoyed this haul! And there will be some more mani's and nail art soon to come.
As always, thanks for reading!

HAUL TIME: Nail Polish

I have been watching a lot of nail art videos on the YT and it has, of course, sparked a frenzy in me.
I have always liked nail polish. I remember when I was in high school, I had buckets of polish. I would change my nails, weekly. Then I got into the acrylic nail fad and the rest is history.
Now that I am back to my natural nails, I want to wear a new color daily! Or at least every other day.

So I went shopping and hear is what I picked up...

I picked up a bunch of Wet N Wild. They were on sale at my Rite Aid (BOGO!)
From left to right (minus the other brands in between), French White Creme; Tickled Pink; Blazed; Sunny Side Up; Candylicous; Beat of a Generation; A Venice Day; Coast to Coast.

The last 3 I could not find a product picture, probably because they are new.

Also a new line in my area, Bonita Salon in the color 'Creaaamson'. A bright yellow. Applies a bit streaky And the brush wasn't the best.

A China Glaze pink in "Feel the Breeze'. It is a new one, part of a collection I think. I can't wait to try it.

Also a BOMB top coat, fast drying, Seche Vite. It is amazing! I do my nails right before bed and I always wake up to imprints on my polish. Not with this top coat. Give it a good 10 min and no worries on the imprints.

Lastly I picked up some dotters to do nail air with. I hope to perfect my skills, I don't have the most steady hand but practice will make perfect. It is art, after all.

Let me know if you have any of these colors and how you feel about them
As always, thanks for reading.

Nails: Creamy Purple Mani

Subscription boxes, ugh. How I love thee.
My second Julep box came in and I got two more unique colors.
A creme purple named: Sylvia

And a creme mauve named: Veronica

I liked the purple the best, so I paired it with the tan I received in my first box.

I loved how rich the purple was. The color came through well with one coat but I liked the result of two coats better.

The polish lasted about 2 days without chipping, but I also have my hands in water a lot. My polishes tend to chip quick...might be my top coat as well.

Overall, I definitely liked the color choices but I think I am going to cancel my subscription. At the beginning (well when I started doing my own manicures), I wasn't confident enough to pick my own colors. I guess I thought I was gonna mess them up or pick the wrong color for my skin tone. But the more I play with colors and try to build my collection, the more I realize it's all about what colors I like, not necessarily my complexion and matching.

Also canceling will save me more money. I have been really focusing on my saving lately and my budget...but I will save the deets on that for a later post.

Anywho...to cancel or not to cancel. Or I could just change my type of collection. Which collection next: 'It Girl' or 'Bombshell'?

Random: Subscription Boxes

Do you know what a subscription box is?
A subscription box is a monthly box that is delivered to you in exchange for a fee. Depending on the company you sign up with, you can get nail polish, makeup, hair care products, beauty products, etc.
A box full of (most of the time) sample or (sometimes) full size goodies that can give your makeup routine some variety. Or give you nail collection some pop. Or introduce you to some products that you never knew existed.
Yea...its real.
And I am just finding out about this!!
Smh...I have been missing out.

Now that I am finally in to loop, I can jump on this S.B. train and ride to my hearts content! LoL!
Tragic, I know. But how am I resist this opportunity? I cant...nope, don't try and explain or give me good reason (LoL) it won't work.

So I am currently attracted to two subscriptions: Julep and Ipsy.
Julep (or Maven Box) is for nail polish and beauty products.
Ispy (or Glam Bag) is for make up and beauty.

You start off by taking a quiz and then the results match up your style and the best products to go with your style.
I like this idea. I suppose that is the purpose...for people to like it. Nonetheless, I have to point out that I enjoy the idea that based on what I tell them I like, they are going to pick out and send me products that fit me.

Since I am trying to be my own personal nail tech, I think I am going with the Julep box first. Also, they have a coupon code for a free box. Win-Win.
I'll be sure to update and let you know how it turns out...if subscription boxes are worth the money you pay for them.

Do you get any subscription boxes?

Nails: Lavender Love

Lavender has never been a color to entice me.
Purple...yes. Lavender though...not so much.
But for some reason, now that I am back to being my own nail tech, lavender was on my list to buy.

So the hunt began! And it took me about 3 trips but I finally found a lavender that gave me some life, lol.
Covergirl's Outlast Stay Brilliant
"Lav-endure"

A creme based polish. Light purple, white undertone. Nice and fresh.
Here is what it looked like on me...

Left: with a flash; Right: without a flash

What I loved about this color is how it made my hands look young. Also had me feeling 'springy'...even though we are into summer, lol. Guess I need to invest in some summer colors, huh.
